Funding

Like all independent fire districts, almost all of our revenue is generated by property taxes. We do not charge a fee for providing fire protection services.

Each year, the Collier County Property Appraiser establishes the taxable value for property located within the District.  The Board of Fire Commissioner's establishes the millage (or taxing) rate which, according to the District's Enabling Act, can be no higher than 1 mil, or $1.00 for every $1,000 of taxable value.  The North Naples Fire District is proud to have one of the lowest fire district millage rates in Southwest Florida, and has held the rate constant (or lower) for the last 40 years.

Because we are almost solely dependent on property taxes, the recent decline in property value has resulted in declining revenue for the District.  Over the last three years, District revenue has decreased by 21%.  To compound the problem, fire and rescue are labor intensive services, so the majority of our expenses are personnel related.  The days of a volunteer fire department being sufficient to meet the needs of the residents and property in North Naples are long gone.  In order to sufficiently protect and serve our residents and the billions of dollars of property located within, we must have highly trained professional firefighters and paramedics and the necessary equipment to handle a myriad of emergency situations.  Cutting expenses translates to reducing personnel, which further translates to slower response times. We continue to make every effort to maintain the level of service we have proudly provided to our residents.

Board of Fire Commissioners reduced impact fee rates by 50%

The North Naples Fire Control and Rescue District's Board of Fire Commissioners reduced impact fee rates by 50% at Monday's Final Budget Hearing. In a n effort to lessen the financial burden on new construction in the District, the Board lowered the Fire District's impact fee rates to help spur the local economy. " We need to do whatever we can to encourage building in our District. We recognize we are partners with the community" stated Chairman Chris Lombardo. The reduced impact fee rates of $0.14 per square foot of residential development and $0.49 per square foot for commercial will go into effect on October 1, 2010.
